How VR Training Revolutionizes Soccer

Background: Virtual reality (VR) has potential to improve cognitive and motor skills in sports, particularly in reaction time and decision-making. Its effectiveness in soccer, especially for goalkeepers, remains underexplored across skill levels.

Purpose: This study assessed the impact of VR training on reaction time and decision-making accuracy in soccer players, comparing beginners and advanced athletes using the "Final Soccer" VR game and the Loughborough Soccer Passing Test (LSPT).

Methods: Two participants (one beginner, one advanced) completed two sessions: one with VR training and one with rest. Performance was measured by accuracy (missed passes) and time to complete the LSPT.

Results: Both participants improved with VR training. The advanced player showed significant gains in time (36.78 to 33.28 seconds) and accuracy (4 to 3 mistakes), while the beginner showed small improvements in accuracy (5 to 4 mistakes) and a slight increase in time. Rest also improved performance, particularly for the advanced player.

Conclusions: VR training enhances performance, especially for advanced players. Beginners showed smaller improvements, suggesting task repetition plays a role. Further research with more participants and longer training is needed.
